What it is

The church fills with Christmas trees and wreaths decorated by Warwick businesses, charities and schools. The festival committee promises choirs and brass bands across the ten days, and a visit from the mayor. The Memory Tree and the Kindness Tree are back: hearts for the Memory Tree cost £1 and tags for the Kindness Tree are free. A pop-up café serves refreshments every day except the Victorian Evening, when there are mulled wine and mince pies to buy instead.

Opening times, day by day

The brochure gives a different pattern for almost every day, so check the day before you go. Times that say “closed” are when the church is shut to the public for a school or care home visit, or a recital.

Thursday 26 November: the Victorian Evening

The church closes at noon on Thursday 26 November and reopens at 5pm for Warwick’s Victorian Evening, staying open until 9.15pm. There will be mulled wine, mince pies and Occasional Brass, and a carol service at 8.45pm. Adults pay £2 that evening; the morning session from 10am to 12pm is free.

That is also the one day you cannot drive to the door. The council lists Old Square, Church Street, Northgate Street, New Street, Market Place and the other streets around the church as closed from 7am to 11.59pm on Thursday 26 November for the Victorian market, and the Christmas lights go on at 7pm.

Which dates are right?

The church’s own festival page still describes the dates as “tentatively 19th to 29th November”. The brochure and the council listing, which are the newer documents, both say Friday 20 to Sunday 29 November, and this page follows them. If you were planning on Thursday 19 November, the brochure lists no opening that day.

Getting there and parking

St Mary’s is on Old Square in the middle of Warwick, a short walk from Market Place. Our parking page lists the car parks across the district, and the roadworks and travel page carries current closures. For the Victorian Evening, plan to park outside the closed streets and walk in.

Accessibility, group visits and anything else not in the brochure should go to the festival committee at christmastreefestival@stmaryswarwick.org.uk.
