For a 9am start in central London, the 07:20 or 07:51 are the practical choices. For a 10am start, the 08:21 leaves useful slack.
What it costs
Chiltern fares split three ways, and the difference between the cheapest and dearest way to make the same journey is large enough to be worth five minutes of attention.
Booked in advance, Advance Singles on weekday morning trains were showing from £50.00, with Chiltern-only and “via High Wycombe” variants at £50 to £81 depending on the departure. Advance tickets are train-specific and sell out, so they reward planning.
Turning up on the day, an Anytime Single is £89.00 and an Anytime Return £178.00. That is the price of total flexibility on a peak train and it is the figure most people are shocked by.
Off-peak, the numbers drop sharply. Observed walk-up fares included a Super Off-Peak Single via Banbury at £39.90, an Off-Peak Single at £46.80, and a Super Off-Peak Return via Banbury at £40.00, which is the standout: a return for essentially the price of a single, provided you travel at the quietest times and stick to the Banbury route.
If you need the Tube at the other end, an Off-Peak Day Travelcard was £78.00 (£72.00 via Banbury), against £201.60 for the Anytime Day Travelcard.
Season tickets: the four-way choice
Commuters face a genuine decision here, and it is worth £2,352 a year at the extremes. Two questions settle it.
The route question matters because “via Banbury” locks you to the Chiltern line. In practice that is the only sensible way to London from Leamington anyway, so most commuters take the cheaper ticket. Buy “any route” only if you genuinely expect to come back via Coventry and Euston on a disrupted evening.
The Travelcard question is simpler arithmetic. The Zones 1 to 6 upgrade costs £1,728 a year over the Terminals ticket on the via-Banbury option. If your onward journey from Marylebone is a daily Tube ride, that is usually worth it. If you walk, cycle or work near Marylebone itself, it is not.
Parking at the station

It is dearer per day at £10.20, or £163.20 monthly, but it publishes an annual rate of £1,713.60, which undercuts twelve months of Leamington’s monthly rate. If you drive to the station every working day and live west of the town, do the sum.
